Artist Statement

In a world full of over-editing, constant screen viewing, artificial intelligence, and over-consumption, the craving for authenticity has never been stronger. Especially when it comes to the world of art and photography. While I cannot speak for everyone, I can at least say that for myself, the need for art that can be held is imperative. My desire to create something real is stronger than ever. In the past, I had tried everything to appeal to the algorithm. Creating everything digitally, over-editing my work and my words; I sank into the expectations and achievements of everyone around me. Losing sight of my vision, losing myself in the process.

I now have found my voice and my inspiration yet again. Only this time, leaning into my authenticity. Leaning in, I find the beauty within the blur; Of the random man looking at the camera in the background of a shot. I find the beauty hiding plainly within the unseen and untouched. Allowing myself to create something real, unique, and irreplicable by anyone (including myself). Allowing my photography, poetry, and paintings to exist exactly as they are has been freeing to say the least. My desire with every single art piece I create is to help people see the beauty in the authenticity of each passing moment. To see all the oddities, mistakes, scuffs, and bumps, as the uniqueness of each experience. Realizing that within art, time, people, etc. lies the beauty of irreplaceability. A lesson that I feel is reflected greatly into my work.

With role models like that of Sorelle Amore, Jamie Nelson, John Swerden, and many others to look up to, I have been able to find my passion for creating. Continuing to be inspired by small film photographers, my local baristas, dogs in strollers, and every other beautiful creation I have the privilege of seeing. Forever being grateful for the ability to learn and grow in every stage of life; no matter how masterful I may or may not become in any craft I delve into.

“Blossoming…

BLOOM!

Time won’t wait for anyone,

not even you.

So embrace your shedded petals…

Blossoming, fragrantly.

Oh! What a majestic bloom

are you!”
